Grand Reunion of Class of 1979 相知半世紀 共聚樂悠悠

Dora Mak (’79)

How many 50-year milestones are there in life? It’s amazing that we have known each other for half a century without realizing it. What a blessing it is that we can all be together!

Our grand reunion has been organised every five years since 2009. 2024 marks the 50th year since we first entered Ying Wa Girls' School, and our commemorative activities include a school visit and a lunch gathering under the theme "相知半世紀 共聚樂悠悠".

School Visit

We felt privileged and honored to be so warmly received at the school campus. The school visit provided us with wonderful reminiscences of our good old days. We treasured the opportunity to share joy and laughter jointly after so many years! We thanked Principal Mr Francis Kwan, Vice Principal Ms Chow Siu Fung (’82), school staff Ms Jenny Leung (’76), and three Student Heritage Ambassadors. They brought us to visit the Silcocks Hall, Steps of Faith, Katherine Chau Library, So Chau Yim Ping Memorial Hall, 6A classroom with vintage classroom furniture, as well as the 1926 Heritage Block where the collection displays the very rich history of our school.

Happy Reunion

Special thanks to dear classmates for their support, cooperation and assistance in making the reunion very successful. Over 50 of us participated in the grand reunion on 26 October 2024. About half a year before the event, a working group with representatives from five classes of 1979 was formed to decide on the format and activities. As we anticipated not all classmates can come on the day, we invited those who could not join in person to send footage or pictures to share their recent developments, such as daily activities, retirement life, and new family members like grandchildren, if any. A video featuring eight overseas classmates and one local classmate was shown at the lunch gathering.

Proud to be YW Daughters

Although the school song we sang at the lunch gathering has ended, our laughter still lingers in our hearts, as if time has taken us back 50 years, and we are still lingering in our alma mater. Every bit of the past is so vivid in our minds. Even though we may be far apart, we are always proud to be Ying Wa’s daughters.
